Question problem after rebuild

i just rebuilt the 302 in my 93. it's sluggish starting and smokes when it's running. not smoking from exhaust but from the outside of the engine itself. is this a common rebuild thing? i'm not a mechanic and this was my first rebuild by myself. i used a chilton's manual and did everything step by step. figured i'd ask before i ended up doing something that would cause harm to the engine or worse, the entire truck. lol thanks for the help.

Best I can tell your discription is normal. There is oil and grease etc, on the block as it gets hot it will smoke. After it heats to normal operating temp it will go away in a couple minutes...

Sounds normal if you didn't hot tank and paint the block.
