Default Power running board FIX

Hi,

Lots of running board issues, not so many simple fixes.

Here is what I did on my '14 and it worked. Mine would no longer go up or down. 144,000 miles.

First, I used an air hammer and pushed the lower pins in about an inch then cleaned them.

Like this.

Next I used my dremel and took a little material off the outside half of the bronze bushing. I then used some moly grease in the bushing and pushed the pins the opposite direction and did the same on each side of the hinge.

As you can see, I did not wallow out the entire bushing. I wanted less friction, but not a sloppy fit. I used Kroil to lube the un-accessable top hinge pins. I centered the pins upon reassembly, then pushed them back a bit to unbind them. The rubberized sealant seemed to be binding the hinges a bit. The pins are held by the center of the hinge and pivot on the outside arms. They work normal now. Hope it lasts! $25 for the air hammer at Menards . The pins were not rusty or worn, Michigan.

The dremel stone was almost a perfect fit (10mm?). I ground the outside edge of the stone on concrete to give it a slight taper to fit the bushing without grabbing.

I had a 2010 for 6 years that constantly had some issue with them... they assured me it was improved in the 2017 I bought... but after not even 3 years I'm already getting the binding and slowness. haven't tried to take mine apart yet, but i like the method you are going with. Which part does board actually pivot, the outsides? Is that why you dremeled them slightly? Thanks!

The pins are a press fit in the inside part of the joint.

I dremeled the inside of the bushings after pushing the pins in 1".

Then repeated from opposite direction.

Then recentered pins.

Thanks for responding, I think I worded my question poorly. Is the part that grips the pin is the outside where you ground down slightly or the middle section? It'll probably make more sense when I actually get off my butt and drive a pin out.

Thanks!

The pin is a press fit in the inside (middle) part of the joint.
