Okay here I go, I have a 2008 f150 FX2 sport with the triton 5.4 3V it has 112k miles on it and runs fine except every once in awhile it boggs down when accelerating and when it goes to downshift. When the truck accelerates hard it pauses around 3k RPM but then the truck falls on its face loses momentum and shifts up. Took it to a local mechanic and he drove it around came back and went to smell the exhaust while it was running and the tailpipe was so hot he spit on it and it boiled his spit off the tailpipe immediately. He suggested the cam phasers are going out on it because its not advancing the timing and causes the engine to run lean and not change the timing of the motor when accelerating. However the engine is not making any funny noises and not throwing any check engine codes. Ive replaced the spark plugs fuel filter and MAF sensor in attempts to fix it. Anyone have any ideas..........
