Default PCV valve replacement

How often should the PCV valve be replaced?

There really isn't a set or recommended replacement time. Most PCV's get plugged up with crud, damaged, cracked with age, etc. and that's why they're replaced. So, you might need to clean it once in a while but as long as it's still OK, you leave it in.

Mine is built into an elbow fitting on the valve cover and I know it's never been replaced so I was just wondering. Just shoot some carb/brake/MAF cleaner in there or something once you pull it out?

Yeah, if it needs cleaning when you pull it out, give it a quick once over. I wouldn't use any carb cleaner on it 'cause it's pretty wicked stuff and could damage it but brake/MAF cleaner or even a little gas in a jar (slosh it around) will work fine.

I agree to a point. Pull the pcv and shake it litely to see if it rattles, if it does it's probably good. I change my pcv everytime I change plugs just as part of my tune up. Small price for the part.

Yeah, I just meant that as long as it's working OK, there's no rule that says you gotta replace it. Agree though, it's only a few bucks so why not put a nice, shiny new one on.
