Default P1289 Code

2004 F150 FX4 P1289 Code confused! frustrated!
I just replaced the IMRC because of that code coming up. I have also just replaced the CHT Sensor and the Jumper wire. The AC doesn't work at all it did for a few seconds but now doesn't at all. The temp indicator did register then I would hear a tone, I get the CHECK GAUGES indication then my engine light would come on. Now the temp gauge doesn't work at all, but I can see it move a little bit when I first start engine then it lays down on C side. I'm going to replace thermostat this morning just to check that off the list, but I'm at a loss now. None of this happened till after I took out the Manifold. The truck did run great and no lights on for a day and a half after IMRC replaced then I get the P1289 Code. Of course any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks?!

The symptoms you report SEEM to relate to some of the things you having recently done - ie: replace IMRC and CHT. You had to have the manifold OFF to do either of those. There is no coolant temp sensor on the 5.4 and the ECU calculates it for the dash gauge. Now you mention code 1289 which is distinctly CHT related. The ECU can (and will) disable the A/C compressor under a number of conditions, one of which is over temp.

I damaged the wire coming out of the CHT when I replaced my manifold / IMRC. Had to solder it back together, use heat shrink & lots of electrical tape. Finally learned to keep the intake manifold propped up off of the CHT with a piece of 1x2 about a foot long to protect it until I was ready to finally set the IM in place. Also, I had trouble deciding which side of the IMRC linkage the CHT & IMRC wiring should run to limit / avoid chaffing on the runner linkage. (ultimately decided it runs between the linkage & manifold - the HARDEST way to route it).
The way the wires for the CHT & IMRC are buried between the engine and firewall, they cannot be adequately inspected without removing the IM. And there is more to both of them than meets the eye. I do not know what readings one could expect testing from the circuits from ECU plug. But from what you describe, I would have to recommend starting there. SORRY, but I think there is damage / short / open to the wiring to the CHT.

Good luck
