Unhappy oil pump

I have a 95 f150 5.0 took motor to have rebuilt got it back home. They put every thing back on but water pump, upper intake, valve covers and oil. so i did that then i went to prime the engine with oil. I put the prime shaft in where the dist. goes and it fell down in motor There was no pump shaft installed. Now I know you should put it on the pump then install the pump on block. can you install the shaft through the top of block down where the dist. goes or do i need to take it back to them? I will have to pull motor again if i have to take it back

You can put the oil pump shaft in through the top. I do it all the time. Sometimes the shaft will stick in the dist and I have to re-install it. I use a pair of long needle nose pliers and slide it right in. Take your time it will work just fine.

thanks for the info. Do you happen to know the direction the drill needs to be in when you prime the engine with oil
