Default Oil Dipstick Tube

Hey fellas and ladies,

I am in the middle of replacing my oil dipstick. I have a 4x4 with a 5.4 litre. Now, I hear there is a difference between a 4x4 oil dipstick tube and a 2x4 dipstick tube? Is this true? If so, what's the difference?

Thanks! Is it because of the way the pan is shaped around the front differential?

Continued. The local USPS recieved my packaged 4wd dipstick tube, and then sent it back to the Chicago hub! Total bummer. Now it is on the way to my house, thank goodness. Anywho, I see that the bracket is bolted to the manifold it appears. The previous bracket is either rusted on or almost melted on. Am I best off just tact welding it on or try to remove the original? Anyone else come across this problem?

You could try but knowing where you live, (rust belt) you'd more than likely break a stud. I'd clean a spot on the stud where it was most likely bolted and tack it.

Thanks. I am currently just trying to get the tube between the block and the manifold to get to the oil pan. I got the old bracket off of the block, Not the manifold as I previously said. Doh!

Any tips on getting the tube to the pan without removing the manifold?

From the 1998 Ford shop manual, step #1.

Think that should answer your question.
