Default OBD Code P1336 Crankshaft Position Sensor Ranger/Performance

Question: Does anybody know if the relearn process (similar to Tech 2 for GM) is available using the Ford diagnostic tool for crankshaft position variation not learned code (0336)?

Back Story: I just bought a 2002 F150 XL 7700 and cant get through inspection because of this code. Took it to Ford dealership and they hit me for engine coil (almost 500 bucks). Problem is the truck runs fine. No problem starting, idling, misfires etc. Based on my research this weekend I'm wondering if the dealership didn't try this and the relearn using the tool would have fixed it. Maybe some work had been done before that caused this?

Thanks.

Default Stumped

I have successfully stumped the forum. I should get a gold star for that. It might cheer me up a bit now that I have a truck that cant pass inspection.

My last hope is to ask the dealership to attach their scan tool and run it through the Ford Drive Cycle (http://www.obdii.com/drivecycleford.html). Step #11 is for misfire learning and the step (0 to 65 and coast to 40) is similar to the CASE relearn for other makes. Hard to believe I can't find anything from Ford on this code and dealership doesn't know.

On the bright side of things, the truck runs great!

This may help you and it may not. I work for GM our learn process on this model years is this.
1. Let vehicle idle to operating temp.
2. Put on parking brake and vehicle in park.
3. Start engine, within 5sec hold accelerator to WOT. Release pedal when rev limiter hits. When vehicle is back to idle shut engine off.
4. Clear code and code should not return.

Best of luck. Please let me know either way.
