Default Might Help:

Lock the parking brake, put the tranny in neutral, get under the ride and grab the drive shaft near the U-joints and try to find some slack in the U-joints by pushing and pulling the drive shaft side-to-side and up and down. If no slack can be found, then listen for squeaks and clicking noises coming from underneath when the tranny is shifted to drive or reverse and the truck begins to move.

Note: Don't be fooled that the front U-joint appears to be loose; the slack, perhaps all of it, could be between the tail-shaft bushing and slip yoke journal.

Be safe dont do it like that. Get sombody to sit in the cab and aply the brakes. Can never be too safe.

as far as the transfer case fluid, if yours is like mine ('93) there are two plugs, one for filling and the other for draining. as long as the fluid is up to the bottom of the top fill plug, you're good to go.
