Misfiring
I bought a 2012 platinum a week ago and absolutely love it. I’m having some misses during acceleration. Check engine light flashed and stays on. Car lot Warranty doesn’t cover plugs so I’m on my own(which is what I figured)
Error code read-
P0301 cylinder 1 misfire
P2610 Internal Engine Off Tomer Performance
P0301”
P0303 cylinder 3 misfire
P0301”
It’s at 115K and pulled one out and it looks to be old so I’m assuming they’re the original ones. I bought some plugs and replaced all but #4. Why didn’t I change #4?The boot broke in half on the plug. Being a non mechanic, I just pushed the coil back on it and screwed it down. I’ll tackle that tomorrow🤦. Took the truck down the road to test it and it seems to be missing worse now than before. I can’t get an error reading til tomorrow but would the torn boot cause this? Low speeds seem to do fine. Just on high rpm runs I get the sputtering. Any advice to get the other half of the boot out of #4. Changing that plug and coil, would that fix the sputter?

It’s the 3.5 liter ecoboost, I assumed it could cause the misfire by not having a good connection on the plug but thought since it was screwed down perhaps it was smashed down enough to still connect. That’s gonna be my task for today. Another thing I noticed, not sure if it has any effect of the firing but the first 5/8 fitting I used had the seal inside to hug the plug, I seen the gasket was falling apart and leaving orange pieces on the plugs. I was going to blow all the plug holes too just Incase that was causing a delay in connection.

Massive relief for the F150 owner!!! I used a long skinny box cutter to cut the broken boot out and an air hose to blow the debris out. Once I put the new boot on the coil I test drove it. Pretty much abused it on the acceleration trying to feel the miss. It’s gone!!! I do know my next step will be replacing the rest of the boots. I had to work that new boot on #4 plug. The other 5 that I’m sure are original slid on with ease. A job for another day, glad it was just a set of plugs needed!
