miles to empty
17k miles on f150 2013 model
the l=miles to empty is driving me crazy
1 time i knew that truck said 160 miles to e as i got home. next am i started to dricve and the warnong came on that i was basically out of gas. i thought someone stole gas from truck on way to get gas, the miles to increased to several iles, then to that i had 150 plus miles. filled up truck to make sure and the number of gallons left was then close. it was cold. the truck was pointed down hill on very slight inclined drive. did not warm it up as i was warned to be out of gas.
2nd time. i pulled a trailer to a gate, opened it and iwas warned that i had 6 miles to e. i was parked slop to front it was cold the truck idled while i opened gate. the mpg read 13 something. i drove back to shed and got gas can for in case i ran out. started to get gas. a few miles later - between prayers the mpg dropped to 11 and i sweated. then the miles to changed to e went to over 20. the mpg stayed at 11 and the miles to e increased to be 70 somthing before i added gas.
i drive 21 miles each way to work. if fuel levle is below 1/4 the variation is the greatest i can start the drive noting the milrs to e snd mpg. i cna see the mpg cjhange and the miles to e vary in the exact opposite to show up to 123 miles of change in this 21 mile drive.
the dealer has said they tested and see no issues, they called wife today and focused questions about how many miles that it shows wehn filled..... nothing eldse was of interest.
truck is in shop for dash lites diming issues as well.
is the miles to e supposed to work or is my trick playing cruel jokes on me? help please

when you restart the truck and its parked on an incline... the miles to empty will be off a bit... it is just an estimated figure of when the truck will run out... many seem to think they can drive the truck until is says 1 mile to empty... then get upset if it runs out... fill the truck at 1/4 tank
There are many sensors available on the the new trucks that tell you way more information than you need most of the time. You seem to be frustrated by them instead of enjoying them. The computers on the Ford trucks are no different than in a laptop. I think you would be much happier if you found a dealership that would be willing to spend some time teaching you how your truck actually works so you won't have as many concerns. Good luck on finding resolution to your problems.
cant remember which way it works, but if you go uphill for a while and reset the lie-o-meter or restart the truck, your MTE will go up like crazy (or down, cant remember), and vice-versa.
as said above, it's an indication, not a true number.
