Default Loss of drive

Hey guys i'm new here, but i hope someone can help me out. I have a 2001 F150 supercab 4x4 4.6L V8, with 93,000 miles on it. Recently i was coming to a stop in my truck. When I went to press the accelerator nothing happened, the engine reved like it was in neutral. I put it in 2nd gear (it an automatic by the way) and again it reved. I put the truck in reverse, and backed up with no problems. Then i put it back in drive and had no problems. A few days ago i was going through a parking lot, about 8 mph and there was a loud thud, could tell if it was from the rear end or transmission. The truck came to a screaching halt, like i had pulled the E brake or something. I backed up put it in drive continued forward about 10 feet and it did it again. I was able to drive it back home and has been sitting ever since. No warning lights came on, transmission fluid looks good and is at the correct level. Does anyone have any idea?

I would take it in to a mechanic now. It sounds like a chatostrophic failure in the transmission and if what your describing happens on the feeway or at any decent speed it is gonna get ugly.

My tranny went on my 01 4.6 and it would just come out of gear, it sounds like your is out and popping into park or a much lower gear. If you can, check your tranny fluid for metal.

Good luck.

Update, well me and my buddy did alittle trouble shooting on the truck.
It turns out that the E brake exploded, They fell out when we removed the rear disks. So we replaced the E brake shoes, so far so good. So hopefully that was the problem.
