Default Likely bad A/C compressor

I think I have determined I have a bad A/C compressor. I'm getting some squealing that happens more as the engine warms up. I took the main serpentine belt off and found that the pulleys/water pump all spin normally. Does this seem like sound logic before I spend the money on the part? Is there any reason I can't remove the A/C belt from the compressor until I have the time to replace it this weekend? I don't need A/C, just need to get to work for the week.

- could be just a bad a/c clutch (which is typically easy to change, and does NOT require cracking system open).

- yes, you can often/typically run with a/c bypassed, but will require a different belt and possibly a different idler pulley. you’d need to search on your specific year/engine to determine specific details.
