It's the clutches in the limited-slip differential, I'd put a small wager on it. Your symptom description is textbook. Sometimes you can salvage them with changing the fluid and additive, but if it has more than about 75,000 mi, you'll probably have to put a new set of clutches in it. It won't hurt anything, but it's annoying and your limited slip function is probably only working minimally.

Originally, I thought I had spun, the rear tires just a little, and realized I had not..... Sounds kind of deep like something is slipping. I had a friend tell me that he thought it was the limited slip also... I was totatlly unaware of the Limited Slip in the rear end.... Now to find out where and the cost to get it replaced or repaired. Not sure it will be safe to pull our TT to the Mtns this month.... Any suggestions would be appreciated....

Assuming it's the clutches, you can drive it as long as you want, it won't hurt anything. Just annoying.

should be about 3 hours labor at the dealer, the clutch packs I cannot remember the price, 3 qts of 75w140
a couple bottles of friction modifier and a tube of sealant. As far as Perrys comment, I used to think that
until I came across one the steel plated and friction plates were worn so far it had close to 1/2" end play
in the axle shafts. only one I ever saw like that though and I replaced hundreds of sets of these clutch packs.

Mine makes a very slight odd noise in reverse for about 15 feet, first back up of the day, never after. I'll bet it is clutches. I never had a 4x 4 with clutched so new exp to me. Thanks for the answer (and the question. (the value of a forum, why wonder when you can know).

Definitely clutches from the description. My '06 was doing the same. Here's the story.
Bought the truck with 54,000 miles on the clock. Immediately changed out all the fluids with Amsoil synthetics, added true duals, and a cold air kit. Fast forward 6 years and 61K miles and the clutches were chattering pretty bad, same symptom as yours, from a stop when turning. When I did the change originally I used Amsoil's Slip Lock additive. I was very diligent to get it all in there too. They always very slightly chattered on occasion and mostly in the winter and it wasn't bad enough to bother with until recently. I decided to pull the cover and take a look. Everything looked fine, no chunks of anything anywhere and only minimal fines on the fill plug magnet. So I cleaned everything up, sealed it up, and put in a quart of Amsoil Severe Gear synthetic 75W-140, a full bottle of Ford's XL-3 friction modifier and topped it off with the Amsoil 75W140. No more chatter. I doubt I'll ever have to change this oil again. When you change it out make sure to use the Ford additive. The oil looked very clean and the inside was likewise. I'm quite happy with the Amsoil fluid, but not so much with their additive.

Try this - find an empty parking lot, turn steering wheel full lock in one direction, drive 15 circles, turn steering wheel full lock other direction, drive 15 circles. Clutches may benefit from being scraped clean.
