I recently bought a 87 f150 straight 6
the last couple of days the idle has been very high varrying form 1200-2700
it only does this after running for 5-10 minutes and doesnt always do it
I have no clue what the cause could be/I dont even know the first thing to check
it may be helpful for you to know that previous owner of the truck hasnt tuned it in 2 years and so far i have only done plugs wires and airfilter
please help
and also i popped the hood today and the top of the battery was melted

the top of the hood was burnt as well so i think that the terminal was just touching the hood
i dont think the battery and high idle are related because it idled high even when the hood was popped and the terminal not touching the hood

If it's a carb model check the carb to see if it's loose.They had issues with the throttle plate working loose and causing a vac. leak.

 

nope its fuel injected
i wish it were carb
does anybody know where i can get a good used carb and intake for the straight 6 300
