Question herky jerky

I recently aquired AN 01' F-150, 4.6L V-8. On my way home last night, on the interstate @65 w\ cruz on, the truck starts acting like it wants to shift under load, like going up a hill or something. Then I noticed that the RPM's would drop and pick up again. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you got a check engine light yet? Sounds like a coil going bad.
