Help. I'm stumped
I have a 2005 f150 5.4. A couple of weeks ago the starter went, so I changed it. It ended up being a bad starter, so there were several unsuccessful attempts to start it. After putting in a good starter I also changed almost all the plugs, except for the 2 way in the back (what a horrible design, the plugs in these trucks are BS, but that's another post). The motor acted like it was seized, it was basically hydro locked with fuel. So after pulling the fuse for the injectors and turning it over a bunch I was able to get it to start by holding the gas pedal to the floor. It stunk of gas but it ran. I was hoping it would clear up but it isn't really. I immediately changed the oil and then it was rattling like crazy. I drove it maybe a mile to a gas station and back and immediately changed the oil again. This time to a heavier oil (15w40) as suggested by a mechanic friend and drove it some more. It quiets down quite a bit after a few minutes but doesn't go away. A few years ago I had the cam phaser changed, the new rattle is kind of like that on steroids. The noise isn't as much a problem as the lack of power and still the smell of gas. The longer I run it the worse those 2 things get although the rattle gets about half as loud after it runs for a while than it is at start up. Also to get it to start I still have to hold the gas pedal to the floor. I'm kinda stumped here. Any thoughts or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
i think there is an extended coverage program on the injectors. These early 3v 5.4 had stuck injector issues. As for the oil get that 15w40 out of there, that is way too thick for these engines, and use a 5w30, or even a 10w30 oil would be fine.
