Default help fuel issue problem??? or ignition ?

i have a 96 XL I6

it has an idle issue, and now a fuel issue, or ignition issue.

when purchased the front fuel tank, didn't supply consistent fuel delivery, the rear tank, does or did.

the idle issue is when the engine is warm, it idles at like 500 rpms i think or lower, as the truck rocks or shakes when in this stage of idle, a few quick high revs of the engine, gets the idle back in normal rpm range, but can and does go back down, to a low chugging or loping idle.

the Fuel issue at present, is that no fuel is seeming to get to the engine from the rear tank. If you let the truck sit over night and switch to the front tank a small bit of fuel is delivered, it tries to fire then after 2 cranks and then nothing.

Ive replaced the ignition coil, sparkplugs and wires, cap and rotor. cleaned the MAF, i am going to clean the TB, when it stops raining, and also replace the fuel filter, which i hope solves the problem.
if not im gonna save up for a fuel pump assembly any recommends on brands, and is there only one fuel filter for both tanks??

Anyone else have this issue, ??? any links, or advice is most welcome thanks in advance

JT,
Check for codes before buying parts.

Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key to on?
Have you checked the fuel pressure?
Replacing the fuel filter is a good thing.

Let us know what codes you find.

hope its not horrible mentioning this, but when i had a 97 chevy you could hear the fuel pump "pre-prime" when you shut it off and when you turned the key on you could hear the whine from the pump just a customary thing with them i guess.

My point. Is that similar to what a ford does, i havent "heard" anything. unless i need to have some one else turn the key, while im under the truck listening.

As for testing the fuel pressure, how do you check it, and ive also heard i need some kind of gauge or pressure relief valve for replacing the fuel filter. Im on a limited budget.

Also how can i read codes, its an OBDII i think the data port is basically under the dash near the glove box, but i dont have a code reader, and the truck is stuck sitting at my apartment complex parking lot.

Can i rent a code reader? can i also rent the fuel pressure release gauge, valve tool etc.
