Default Grinding

Quick question I just bought an 86 F150 the trucks engine runs great but the gears are not my friend. I can go into reverse but I have to slam it in otherwise it grinds. Once in awhile First and second gear act like they are not even there. Any suggestions on what to do I am going to try pumping the clutch pedal to see if it helps but If that doesn't do the trick is there something else I need to check or try.

Thanks...

Its time for a clutch kit. Also need to inspect your flywheel. If it is in good shape then just resurface it. If not, replace it. Take your time and make sure you line up everything correctly. Especially your throw out bearing.

There's an inspection hole the driver's side of the bell housing with a rubber plug. Have someone depress the clutch pedal and watch the amount of movement in the throwout bearing. It should be at least 3/8". If not, I would suggest replacing the master clutch cylinder first. Even if you wind up doing a complete clutch, replacing this is a good idea. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThdQ7qu9BnM‎

Like mark suggested it sounds like the clutch cylinder. Sounds like it has a leak cause your having to pump..
