Gentex Autodim Mirror Button Removal
2014 F-150 XLT Crewcab 4x4
My rear view mirror fell off with the button attached, the button is not like any other I’ve seen. Is there a special tool that allows for button release ?
If so where can I get one or, is there a trick to release that button ?
Thanks

How could we know when you didn't post a picture of it, or even attempt to describe it?

Some have reported being able to jab a small flat blade screwdriver into the slot to get it to release.

GenTex is the OE for most electronic automotive mirrors, and they've made MANY styles over the years. Some don't require a tool - you just smack it upward to remove. Some take a Phillips; some a Torx. And some use the type of catch described in this Ford diagram:

These are all GenTex mirrors:

You can see the screws in some of them; the others that don't have the slot for that catch are the toolless type. There may be other mounting styles.

Well this is an F150 forum so it seemed safe to assume he meant the one in a truck. They didn't start supplying Ford with mirrors until 1984 and the ones in use in all Ford trucks since the early 90's all pretty much have the same or similar style as the one in the video I posted.

I've found all 3 (toolless, catch, & screw) in F-series, although electronic RV mirrors weren't offered before '94.

They're all GenTex, so IDK why you're calling one of them "GenTex style".
