Default First oil change 2017 XLT 3.5 EB

Dropped the oil for the first time at 1300 miles. This is my first f150, so I'm learning the Ford way. That composite lower oil pan and yellow plastic plug is taking me some time to get my head wrapped around, but I can't ignore how convenient it is.

Just completed the first oil change on my'17 Eco 3.5 last night at 2k miles. Had to use small channel locks to remove the plastic drain plug. Man, when the plug is removed, the oil flows out extremely fast. I used a small bucket to catch the oil, as I don't believe a regular style drain pan would keep up. Also, the oil filter is more accessible than the '12 model I owned. Pretty straight forward for the most part.

Yes, when you pull the plug, you have to be ready. It's an inch thick, turbo scalding stream!

Thanks for posting this. Haven't done my first oil change yet. Was thinking of swapping drain plug for Fumoto valve. Doesn't sound like that's an option with this new motor. Hmmmm.... (didn't know about the composite oil pan and plastic drain plug)

Right - it is not an option to replace the plastic drain plug for a Fumoto.

Thanks Rickwuhk. I forgot to state it in my post, but I have a 2017 3.5 Ecoboost (the new generation). I haven't looked yet, but I'm guessing that it has the composite pan and plastic oil drain plug. Correct?

Is the oil filter in a different location or is it just easier to get to? I thought there could've been a better location than where it was on my 2012.

Same location, but easier to get at.
