Default F - 150 Fuel pump replacement.

A friend of mine recently had his F - 150 fuel pump replaced.

To do this, the fuel tank had to be lowered, drained and all that sort of thing. Fairly expensive job, considering that the pump is easily replaced,
ONCE YOU GET TO IT.

Why would it not be possible to have an access cover or plate of
some sort in the bed of the truck ? When the fuel pump needs servicing,
the cover or plate would be removed rather than having to lower the tank.

Seems like it would be a lot easier. Of course, suitable safety measures
would have to be taken no matter which method were used.

Anybody ever see such a setup ?

i,ve thought of that same thing for years, but never got around to doing anything about it. i,ve only had to replace 1 pump in my life and that was on a f250 1990. it had a 3" body lift on it so that gave me a little more room. but i still had to drop the tank.

I had an 86 Honda Accord, pull the carpet back in the trunk, and there was a panel I removed. Under that was the access to the fuel tank. Disconnect the hoses, twist, and pull straight up and the whole assembly was out.

Default pump access panel

My 94 escort had the same panel as the honda and it would make sense to have some way of getting to it unless you had a rhino lining put in the bed of the truck... then it would be a pain.

I have a 1992 F150 that has a non reading sending unit in the front tank. Do I have to change the pump as well? Are they all in one piece? Can anyone give me any help in this matter? I've never done this before and I don't want to screw up the tank or the lines.

Talking panel

real easy too do just cut away where the pump is on mine i had the support beam in the way cut that out of the way then go to your local junk yard and git so more of the same make sure you get so more support beam and screw that in to the bottom of the bed than do your pump replacement and replace your bed withe new piece and screw it down and if u have a bed liner your all set now its 3 mins your at your pump
