Evap Leak = Sputtering?
Hello all. I have codes 455 and 457 finally pop. I say finally because initially I would get was a check fuel cap code. I replaced the cap and now I'm getting the codes I just listed. It refers to the Evap system. Now I don't smell any fuel anywhere. The truck is sputtering. It gets pretty bad when I am going up hill or up a ramp. My research says that these codes should not cause drivability issues. The sputtering seems like the classic signs of a coil pack according to everything I have read here, but codes for that pop up. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
I belive your sputtering is unrelated to your your evap problem. Check and see if you have any codes pending related to a misfire or look at the misfire moniter on a scanner if you can. As far as the evap leak look at your filler neck and inspect it for cracks in the area where the fuel cap screws into,if it is cracked it will need to be replaced. Also look at the filler neck its self,if it's rusted pretty bad I would recommend replacing. If you have access to a evap smoke machine that would be the best way to go as far as diagnosis. I hope this is helpful to ya,good luck!
