Default Engine swap!

I have a 1996 F150 with 5.0 that needs swapping. I know someone selling a 5.0 out a 1993 van. I know for a face firing order is different But could I still do the swap right? Any help?

You could, but it wouldn't run right.

How exactly did you determine that it "needs swapping"? What's wrong with it? Why aren't you considering rebuilding it? Or some less-invasive repair?

When I bought it from this buy he said it was smoking bad and he took a head off and found a Scratch in cylinder wall and left it sitting as is. I figure a rebuild would cost more because I am on a real budget. Im just tryna get it running again.

Cylinder walls don't just get scratched - there has to be some severe problem to damage the cylinder, and it's usually MUCH deeper than "just a scratch". Post pics of it:

Have you talked to any local rebuilders? Have you contacted the nearest Jasper dealer? Put your location in your profile, and all the truck's details in your signature.

The '96 5.0L is not identical to the '95, or to the later one in Explorers/Mountaineers. If you want the truck to run RIGHT (not just RUN), you have to keep it '96.

You really just need to swap a few of the parts from the 96 engine over to the 93 engine, not that difficult or costly.

Swapping the camshaft is relatively difficult.

I really figure if the OP can swap an engine he can prep the new used engine. If he comes back on we can give him a little guidance.

The bottom end on 302 motors with different firing orders is the same. The different firing orders are achieved with the cam. It's a common misconception the crank is different but it is not. I thought this needed clarifying. The cam on the 96 is hardened steel with roller lifters and should be fine to be reused. The cam won't really wear,
