For the last year my truck has been in and out of the dealer, warranty and non, spent way to much $$ and too much headache, anyway finally fixed. On my 2018 F150 2.7 super crew the ignition coils were discovered to be arcing out against the engine block when under a load. My truck would often go into limp mode when going past half pedal uphill. It would shutter like crazy, check engine flash. Spark plugs were first diagnosis, followed by catalytic converters (covered by warranty) then finally the ignition coils. Ford charged me almost double for the parts…BOOO NOT COOL. Anyway if anyone else is having this issue, replace your coils, boots, and plugs AT HOME. FML RIP $$

 

Windows have shutters against storms, engines could have a shudder, or a stutter, but not a shutter.

Most likely new rubber boots at the spark plug end would have fixed the issue, but new coil packs with new boots can also fix misfires.

Also some engines did not come with the black engine cover on them, and there are reports of water from rain dripping down the hood cowl clips and filling a puddle of water in around the spark plug wells that can cause misfires.

I was just trying to make a helpful post, the coils themselves were defective from the factory, they looked like they were hit by lightning, wasn't just the boots, but thank you so much for your supportive comments that were so helpful and contributed to the post.

 

IDK if your coils were original or not but there are lots of after market counterfeits out there.

 

They were supposedly replaced by another dealer but weren’t, I’m thinking about pursuing them financially for this, apparently factory parts all have specific marking on them and mine had those on them, so the other dealer either swapped them for other bad coils or straight up ripped me off. Not happy with Ford Dealers right now.
