Default Engine noise

Hello everyone,

I just bought an '07 f150 crew 5.4 with 150k km and love it. The truck is spotless and seems to run very well. However, when driving with the windows open today, the truck had a "sewing machine" (for lack of a better word) noise when accelerating. I can't notice it with the windows up and it's only when accelerating. My '99 had a similar sound to it, so was just wondering if this normal. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Could this be an exhaust leak?

The 5.4L is a noisy engine. It is hard to determine if your noise is any worse then normal without being there to listen to it. One thing that helped quite the noise a bit in my truck was to switch to 5W-30 oil.

Thanks for the input. I actually took it back to the dealership and their mechanic confirmed it is in fact an exhaust leak. There is a snapped bolt on the driver side resulting in a leak and a small leak on the passenger side that they are taking care of as well.

Whether this gets the rid of the noise or not, we'll have to see, but the mechanic has promised it will.

I will keep you posted as to the results!
