Hello Gents,

I have a 2008 5.4 V8 with 142,000 km on it. This morning it started making a funny noise. Can someone help me figure out what it is ?

Does it still do it with the belt off?

 

Water pump?

 

Man, that sounds worse than mine before I changed my timing components and lash adjusters. Does it sound like that all the time, hot and cold? I would take the belt off and start it to see if it sounds the same. If it sounds better, check each pulley to include excessive play in the water pump pulley. Then let us know what you find. Also, you can disconnect your VCT solenoids while it is running to see if the sound changes, if it does, it could be bad solenoids that are preventing your phasers from working properly. When was the last oil change and what weight oil are you running.

 

Sounds like a cracked exhaust manifold
