Engine light comes on
I was wondering about this problem I had with my 1998 Ranger, My brother with his 1998 Ranger and my Dad is having now with his 1998 F-150XLT 4WD.
(We all bought new trucks that year)
I traded my Ranger in for My 2004 F-150.
I checked everything when I had mine, I would end-up "Disconnecting " the battery to clear the light and it would stay off for days to weeks (Same problem their having now)
I took it to Auto Zone had the reader put on it and I got a code for "EGR valve)"
I changed out the valve, and everything else they showed it could be.
Didn't fix the problem. I even changed out the lines to encase they had carbon build-up that I couldn't remove.
I got to the point "I put tape over it" and the light would go out from time to time by its self.
Now their having the exact same problem with theirs. Both trucks have over 80,000 miles on them and drove mainly highway.
I have been told by others that it has happened even on Explorers .
Anyone else seen this problem? Or had it and fixed it?
Its always

me to this day .
If anyone knows You Guys will
Thanks Goose

I changed that out too, I even took it to FORD to figure it out, $150 later changed out a sensor and still didn't fix it.
I just drove it with the "Tape" on it and when I could Traded-it in. Truck still ran fine and it had 156,700+ when I traded .
But I'll tell them,
Thanks Goose
