Electronic locking diff knocking
Hey everyone. I bought a 4x4 2016 f150 with electronic locking differentials. Finally had our first real snow storm and thought to give the locking differential a try in my neighborhood. When I pulled the **** and accelerated (slowly) I heard knocking coming from my rear diff. The knocking persists and then eventually goes away. But when I disengage the locking diff and re-engage them I hear the same noise. Is this normal?? This has only happened when I used the locking diff.
Make sure you can replicate the noise. Otherwise a dealer will probably dismiss it.
Good luck and please report back to us. I've used my locker several times in gravel and mud with no noises.

Thank you everyone for all the replies. So I contacted a Ford dealer and let them know what was happening. The person I talked to from service department had no clue what a electronic locking differential was (e-locker). It was very discouraging so I didn't even want to bother bringing it in.
I tried to test the e-locker again a few days later when the weather finally started to warm up and the truck did not make the noise. I spoke with a mechanic(general mechanic) and he said more than likely the oil in the differential wasn't warm and prevented the e-locker to fully engage. That could explain why it was working in warmer weather and not working so well when it was -5. I'm a little sceptical, but does make sense. I will keep an eye on it and keep you guys posted on any changes.
