Default CV boot or Axle

While changing my starter, I saw a rip in my axle boot. Living in MN, I assume salt/de-icer from the winter roads has made its way in. Should I replace the axle shaft or just the boot? I am already doing my front suspension (tie rods/control arms/etc) because its at 99k miles and the shop won’t do an alignment until they are replaced. I’m leaning towards replacing the axle shaft, but wasn’t sure since the shop said nothing about it (they were looking at it, and it is hard to miss).

In order to determine worthless or not you will have to take the shaft out and disassemble it completely to inspect all surfaces where the ***** contact, old turkey basting pan and some gasoline will clean it all up good enough for inspection, with the amount of miles on the shaft and you will have the front suspension apart any way that inspection will be the only added labor. Me I'd just replace it even though I know how to rebuild cv joints. Time is expensive.
