COP Replacement
2001 5.4 Screw
Parts will be here tomorrow for me to replace my COPs and plugs this weekend. I got a misfire on #6, but found the whole set of Accel COPs on Amazon for $165, so I figure just replace all of them while I am in there.
I have pretty much conceded that I will be pulling the fuel rail in order to get better access to the working area. But I am foggy on one thing.
Does the fuel rail seperate from the injectors, or do I pull the fuel rail with the injectors still attached? I have seen pics where it looks like the injectors stay in, but I have read people talk about pulling the injectors in the process. I read that I need to replace the o-rings, but want to make sure I have the point of seperation correct.
Also, what is the trick to getting the COP unplugged? I can't see a tab or anything to depress, and I don't want to just pull on it and mess up the plug.
Of course the first time I looked I was in the driveway using a flashlight. I have since cleaned out the garage and will be pulling the truck in there so I have better light and out of the elements. So maybe I just missed it the first time I looked.
I am using the Chiltons online manual as reference, but can't seem to get a good pic or description of the whole process.
Also, any tips that you all have for getting the plugs out? Penetrating oil etc.
