Default Constant Whining

Just bought one owner '00 4x4 with 5.4 good truck so far except for one thing, constant whine, sounds like the power steering pump but the fluid level is fine. I've read about the belt and idler pulley problems, but I don't think a belt would sound like this. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

My buddy's 99 has the same thing. He replaced the PS pump, the idler pulley, the tensioner pulley, and the A/C compressor. Still whines.

Well I replaced the alternator no more whine, engine seems to run smoother also, wonder if the alternator was pulling down the motor.
