I have a 2001 supercrew 2wd 4.6 Romeo and a buddy of mine has a wrecked 2005 2wd. My question is this: is the motor and trans compatible from the 05 to my 01? He's a Ford tech and says theres minor differences between the 2 motors, being the intake manifolds, the exhaust manifolds and the oil filter housings are the differences. Both trucks are 4.6L and I'm having a terrible time finding a replacement engine/trans for my truck.

What all are my options?

How hard would it be to put a 5.4 in it and what all would be involved if i can't manage to find anything with decent mileage?

Would a 4.6 Romeo/4r70w from a car fit/work in my truck? I ask this because I've seen numerous crown vic's/town cars/grand marquis with decent mileage but I'm unsure if the trans will hold up in my truck.
