I posted this in another thread but check out dx.com. They've got handhelds and Bluetooth devices that connect to a phone/tablet/laptop for cheap. What you're looking for is a scanner with CANBUS capability.

I ended up getting a innova 3130c with fix assist.
Will update you after I use it over the next few days.
The fix assist looks pretty cool and the site give u access to oem parts and technicians
