Default Clearing SES light

I replaced the DPFE sensor on my '01 4.2 F150 (w/o disconnecting battery). If I have accurately addressed and fixed the problem , should my SES light go out at first start-up or will it take a few drive cycles for it to clear itself, or should i just pull the negative from the battery?

And how does one do that, with a scan-tool?

Scan tool or just disconnect the battery for no less than 15 mins. Which I recommend not just for clearing codes but it also resets KAM. (Keep Alive Memory) The vehicle may exhibit unusual running at first but it will clear up within 500 miles (What Ford says) my experience in the field has usually been 50-100 miles.

Disconnecting the battery will not always delete the history.
