Lightbulb Check Engine Light Not Working

Recently bought a 2003 F-150 (CNG converted). It won't pass state safety/emissions because the check engine light doesn't come on at key turn (The battery and airbag do, and the gauges come up after a few seconds). It's not throwing any codes, just not turning on.

Got the cluster out, the LED bulb was fine. I even bought another cluster for $100, had the dealer program the new one for another $200, AND IT STILL DOESN'T COME ON!

So apparently, it was never the cluster. Is there a fuse or another computer somewhere or something that's not turning it on?

Need a diagnostic scan tool in order to properly test the system but here's something you can try.

R3 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
  • Disconnect all PCM connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?

Default Fixed

Oh. My. Gosh. Well, I found the problem. After all that, it was just a missing fuse. (fuse #6 to be exact.) Live and learn.

Sometimes the most difficult problems are fixed with simplest measures. Glad you got it going, save that other cluster, ya never know, or sell it on ebay.

Define "fuse is not blown and bulb is fine"

How did you determine both of those results?

Every fuse is complete. Usually blown fuses are blackish or the metal pins inside are broke. All of them are fine.
Also was checked with an external source to light the bulb up and they lit.

We figured the black connector pin behind the cluster is not receiving any electrical sign. The one that connects behind the checkengine, abs side of the cluster.
