Default 2015 3.5L Lariat - Check engine light code P0301

Check engine light came on in my 2015 3.5L Lariat under normal acceleration while passing someone on a surface street (45mph). Dealer says it's related to the plugs and coil pack and that repair would run $461.

Just wondering if anyone had any additional insight into this. The Ford service guy seemed kind of sketchy and unsure of himself when he presented me with the information and didn't exactly leave me feeling that he was confident that this would resolve the issue.

Truck is in great condition and has been babied. Currently has 48,000 miles.

Also, anyone know if coil pack is covered under the powertrain warranty? I would assume not, but you never know.

Thanks for your time guys.

No I would bet money that they will say the coil pack is not covered under the 5/60K.

Cylinder 1 is the front cylinder on the passenger side. What I would do is swap the coil from cylinder 1 to 2 and from 2 to 1 and reset the code. If it comes back and the code is still P0301 then I would get a set of Motorcraft Plugs(SP534) for $40, gap them correctly and install. Its the code changes to P0302 then its the coil.

The $461 would be for the "assessment" ($160), parts and labor. Said they need to replace the coil pack and plugs.

Good info. Thanks for the feedback Wayne!
