Default Getting fluid back up into the torque converter

So how do you get fluid back in there? Is there a priming method, is damage done if this is dry on startup?

ok, so is there different types of torque converters where as one is maintenance free without a drain plug and the other has a drain plug so maintenance can be done?

1) The Oil in the Pan cerculate throw the system and the converter is part of it. so after you dran the oil, fix evry thing back, then fill withe new oil start the car and go throw the gears (dont drive, move the leaver from P to 1 and back agan few times) and check the levil and top up if nesesary. (Fact)

2) If the flued is not changed for a long time (100+ K) then dont chang it most probebly it will kill your trans. But it realy depends on how it was cared for.

3) It is beter to cang as mutch as posibel, so if you can dran then dran the TC the TC. Or chang the oil more frequnt (I say 1/2 of the full dran mileg/Time). (Opinon)

4) Oil is cheap compeared to a trans rebeld. so dont ignor it. If the oil lokes ok It dos not mean it is ok the. The Chemical carestresticks will chang over time (oil will brakup). so do the servis as requiered. (fact)

5) to increas the oil life fit a trans cooler or if you have one maybe a beger one (if neded, Towin/Huling). Man enimy of trans is heat becous it breacks up the oil. (Fact)

I just got trans fluid changed today. Mechanic called me when he found some metal debree in the pan. It was small, thin piece of metal, size of broken 1/2" washer and he recommended trans rebuilding immediately for about $2300 as a new transmittion is not available on the market. He said the fluid has never been changed before [ it has 140xxx now]. Also he recomended not to go far out of the city. I'm planning 4 hrs trip this weekend. What would you guys do? Any experience with rebuilt tranny? New tranny is really not available? All about 2002 F150 FX4

Can you describe any of the other crud that was
in the pan ?

I personally smell a rodent here.

So I have a 97 with the 5.4 Auto. From what I have read, I should have a drain plug in the TC. Once I drain the TC and then service the pan and filter the new fluid should automatically refill the TC after the trans pumps everything back though the system?

Also, there seems to be some debate on whether or not to even do a filter/fluid change in some cases. I am pushing 176K miles on this truck but have only owned it for about 25K. The previous owner seems to have kept good care of it so I have to assume the trans has been serviced in the past. The trans seems to shift ok but the fluid isn't that nice bright redcolor that you want to see. It doesn't smell too bad but it has that brownish almost rusty color to it. I would like to get a few more years out of this pickup but if a fluid change is going to kill the trans I will just leave it alone. Does anyone have any input on this?

I understand that putting new fluid in an already tiredt rans kills it because of all the detergents and friction modifiers in the new fluid. An old trans does not like this and will start to slip in some cases?

My '02 has 86k miles on it, and I don't know if I should have it flushed. I had my '96 Chevy flushed, and not long after had to have transmission rebuilt! I have done a lot of research on this issue and still don't know what to do with a used truck. I would have a new one changed/flushed regularly.
