To change or not tranny fluid
I have a 2018 f150 5.0 10r80 tranny, 3:31 rear end, without tow package towing a 5000lb trailer. 54k miles. I recently finished a 5700 mille trip with mountains involved up to 6% grades. Tranny temps got to 228 on several occasions but would settle to 214 or so. No lights or warnings ever. However, I am wondering if I should change the tranny fluid? Should I do a drop the pan and filter change? I know it is not recommended until 150k but just wondering - an ounce of prevention thing. Would you go to any tranny shop or to the dealership? Just wanting some advice. I am leaning toward changing the fluid only just for safety. tia
The temps you reported are well within the capabilities of the fluid and the system. No need to panic change the fluid for that reason alone.
However, routine replacement of the fluid is a good idea anyway. Keeps the additive pack refreshed and removes some of the circulating wear particles that are normal.
