Default CD player out

What can a dealership or an independent shop do to fix or replace a worn out CD player? It's a 2012 F-150. This is my general concern regarding outgoing models.

Go to an audio shop and change out the OEM unit. Ford's tend to have trouble with their head units.

Thanks! By "head unit", what exactly does it refer to? It's the part that's behind the CD and radio, not including the touch screen right? The touch screen is a unit of its own? And if the "head unit" can be replaced, I can choose a more powerful one to support more powerful speakers without relying on a separate amp?
