Default Cam Phaser Replacement

I have a 2018 3.5 ecoboost xlt with 59k miles and

cam phaser issues. Who’d have guessed?!! I have waited a few months to get it fixed since the issues surfaced. Well two days ago I discovered a water pump leak and decided to get it all done in one go. The shop quoted me 4500 for the whole kit and caboodle when I dropped the truck off. Luckily they had the new style phasers in stock so they got right to it and then quoted me at 3750. Not sure why they dropped the price but based off the video they sent at half way I’m guessing it might be because they left the cab on??
here’s to hoping it solves the issue once and for all 🙏🏽

Purchased this truck new? Dealer oil changes?

What brand, & grade of oil do you run, & Oil change intervals.

I have about 125000 miles on mine. Thinking eventually it will need to be done, or a tubocharger.

So far I have had no issues, but have also been sending regular samples in to a lab for oil analysis. Noticed I had a fuel dilution issue, and my oil viscosity was falling out of spec possibly to to shearing. I am now changing oil much sooner than the intelligent oil life monitor recommends, at about 5000 miles with a full synthetic, and even so I am still having viscosity issues & oil additive depletion.

I bought it 6 months ago and it had all the services done at the dealer within 5k miles each time. From now on I’ll be running Mobil 1. After the service at the stealership the rattle is gone and it runs pretty freakin quiet. We’ll hope it stays that way 🙏🏽

Well at least they gave you the better price.

I always thought taking the cab off was the easiest way to do the maintenence, and woukd save you money in the end.

I guess that tells you no matter what you do, they can give problems.

with it being such low miles, it's too bad they couldn't get you full warranty.
Many dealers have a warranty period on a used vehicle sold., but maybe only 1 month.

^agreed - sad it wasn't covered under warranty. I had mine replaced on a '17 3.5L and they did take the cab off. It hasn't had a problem since and it's been over 50k miles.
