Default Brake grabbing?

Hello to all. Thanks for providing the forum. Any and all responses are appreciated.

My father's 2003 F150 XLT SuperCab, 6cyl, 2WD, AT, was in storage for 2 years. When I retrieved it, I had the Ford dealership check it and put it in running condition. They replaced the battery, 4 worn out tires, disk brakes on all 4 wheels, changed the oil and did a front end alignment.

I took it home, and drove it for about a week, just to see how it was behaving. Everything was okay, until after driving in city stop and go traffic, I noticed a "dragging" feeling and went straight home. There was smoke coming from the right rear wheel. I sprayed water on it to cool it off and let it sit until the next morning. When I did another test drive, it was not grabbing.

Took it to another Ford dealership for a check up, and to do some other work. They did a brake diagnostic and could find nothing wrong. Did a major tuneup. I've driven it a number of times since then with no trouble. Yesterday, I drove in exactly the same type of stop and go, urban condidtions and the exact same thing happened. Dragging feeling, smoke coming out of right wheel, smells like brakes do when locked.

I'd appreciate another opinion before I take it back to the dealership, or another garage. Thanks!

sounds like a sticking caliper you got goin on.also check the brake hose to the caliper.if the hose is bulging or flat in any spot it could be a bad hose too.a older ford ranger i owned did something very similiar and it was a bad caliper but the hose blew out while driving and stopping.

if its the same wheel locking up i would replace that caliper

you should also replace the brake fluid, if the problem only comes when your in traffic and using the brakes a lot then it sounds like your overheating the fluid

Something is not allowing that side to fully release the pads.

1. Sticking caliper
2. Collapsed Rubber Brake line
3. Caliper bracket corroded, not allowing the pads to move freely
4. Emergency brake not releasing

Don't know why it doesnt happen on a regular basis unless its number 4, Do you use the Emergency Brake on a irregular basis maybe?

Seems if it were 1 thru 3 it would happen all the time.

Could be ABS, but I don't know much those.

Let us know.
