Default Best OBD code reader

I own a 1995 Ford Ranger, and a 2006 FX4 F150. I'd like to purchase a reader that can accomodate both vehicles instead of buying an OBD1 and OBD2. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks. Oh yeah, as far as price, I'd be willing to pay as much as $300 for it.

I'm with Deven, matco and snap-on scanners are amazing, but pricy. They can read codes, show live data, tests...etc. Basically the next best thing to a dealer's scanner. There are other scanners out there for ~$100 rather than 3-4 hundred. Also you could go to your local auto parts store and see if they rent them. You put down a deposit and can take it home instead of using it there. Orileys and napa are the ones that come to mind for purchasing or renting one.

Thanks for the response fellas. I know a lot more about them now than I did from researching the models that you suggested. I wound up finally purchasing an EQUUS INNOVA 3140. Seems it doesn't cover some earlier models, but my 95 Ranger is a bit more popular. Thanks again for your help, and if there's any drawbacks with the model I chose, don't hesitate to give me the 4-1-1. I can always return it.
