Default Air intake noise, engine puffs

Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 F150, 4.6L 4WD. The guy before installed a bunch of aftermarket stuff and the air intake is also aftermarket from what I can see.

I've been having this noise (see video) for a while, it impacts the RPM of the engine when idle (unstable RPM). It sounds like the noise is coming from the air intake filter.

Any advice on what I should try ? The rubber gaskets are definitely worn and cracked, do you think the truck could struggle because it's getting more air through the cracks ? Also I don't have this problem while driving, just when it's idling.

I would certainly change that filter if nothing else. You should get a stock air intake for it. Some people do modifications that instead of helping actually just cause problems.

Check every connection on the intake tube, that the material is still good,if not replace it, that the sealing material is aligned well and fasteners are tight. These connections not being sealed will allow dirty unfiltered air in the intake, that may need to be cleaned.
