Hey everyone!! I have an 86 f150 with a 302 , AOD auto trans. when its parked and I put it into gear it shifts hard and I hear a big click and or bang sometimes. as well as when im on the road it downshifts hard it seems like. i checked the tranny fluid and its a clear redish color. and its not hot at all. any ideas?? should I buy a new tranny or is it somethine else?? thanks!

 

Is it REVING high when you shift into gear? If it is get some CARB CLEANER and spray it over the manifold where you have VACCUM lines, You may have a vaccum leak! The "BANG" maybe like a "NEUTRAL SLAM" A high revving eng and throwing it into drive!

 

no it doesn't rev up at all when you shift it. just makes that bang and click noise. someone told me the other day it could be a u-joint?? not sure if that is correct or not but what you think??

 

I also found that if i hold the brake a bit harder it is less noticeable sometimes if i do it hard enough it doesn't do it at all?? not sure why this is at all??? its confuseing the heck outta me....
