Default 84 300i6 sputters on acceleration

Now that the cold weather has moved in my truck will start to sputter and run rough when accelerating until about 3rd gear. Not sure the rpms because the tach is broken. It idles just fine but especially in the lower gears it sounds terrible and lurches something awful. Carb is a new 1bbl carter YF and I had a local classic car shop tune it for cold weather but something is still amiss. I'm pretty new to carbed engines and cant figure it out. A few people suggested vaccum lines but this old truck is butchered beyond belief when it comes to vaccum lines and electrical. Perhaps I'm missing some key components?

We might be able to offer some useful suggestions if we knew more about it, and could see some pics. Click this, read the caption, fill in your signature, and post some pics:

Have you ever adjusted the timing, or checked compression with a screw-in gauge?
