6r80 clutch pack question
Hello all!
I have a 2016 F150 XLT 4x4 with a 3.5L.
I'll try to keep this concise. In August one of the tranny coolant lines sprung a significant leak and dumped fluid quickly. That led to some clutch plates "welding" themselves dude to the high heat.
After some effort I got the transmission unstuck. It drives alright save for around third gear when it's warmed up, it'll grind and slip and rough it to the next gear set. This is hard on the transfer case.
I bought a used 6r80 and confirmed it was the correct model year and got the torque converter with it.
Turns out I had bought a used tranny for a 5.0L. the bolt pattern on the bell is completely different.
My question is this: are all the clutch packs and planetary gear set the same across the 6r80 for the same model year?
Can I just have the shop swap the "guts" or the tranny and not be concerned about the housing?
Any help would be very welcome cause I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere else.
