Default 5.4 2008 skipping issue

Anyone have a skipping like issue up a hill? Seems like in a lower gear up a hill it skips, reminds me of hitting a rumble strip on the highway...Rpm does not correlate and stays smooth. Adding throttle shifts gears and removes the issue. No check engine light present.

I upgraded to a higher octane fuel, connected a code reader- no current codes, and no improvement.

One place quoted me $1500 for new plugs, coils and they also said it was required to do a fuel injection service??? Engine runs fine at idle.

Some friends of mine are saying to drop my transmission pan, change the filter and fluid... Thoughts on U-joints. It almost sounds like a torque issue.

What should I do. Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot?

Mine did a similar thing. Changed plugs and the problem went away.

Mine had a bad shudder at low RPMs in 4th gear (OD). If I was on a 45mph road, and slowed down for a second or started up an incline, it would start bucking. Mine shifts into 4th around 50mph which is very unfortunate when on 45mph roads. I turned off OD and it stopped doing it. But I knew this wasn't a "fix". I was skeptical about it being a "misfire" but I changed out my plugs yesterday, and the problem is gone. Completely gone. I kept the original coils. I wanted to try one thing at a time. The coils should last longer than the plugs anyhow.

THanks. I noticed going up a hill if I turned off the Overdrive the problem would go away.

I bought eight of the Motorcraft SP-509 plugs at Advanced Auto Parts for about $64. I also bought the 9/16 magnetic swivel socket they sell. It was well worth the $11 or $12 I paid for it.

Replace your coils and plugs. Every single one of my plugs broke off ended up costing me 1100. Never owning a 5.4 again, third ford with the same problem.
