Default 4x4 randomly stopped working

i have a f150 4x4 2006 with 132000 on it. I was driving yesterday for about 3 hours and got to my destination where i needed to use my 4x4 to get into the drive way. I stopped and put the truck in park and flipped the 4x4 switch and nothing. The light didnt come on and the front wheels did not engage. It wasnt raining or bad weather. tried it again today and the same thing no light and not engaging. Any advice or help would be much appericated thanks.

If I remember, i believe the 4x4 actuators located on the transfer case usually go bad.

Possible vacuum line leak on the front diff. The light will not come on in any case w/o the front end engaged or the T-case if you have manual hubs

Did you try to drive forward after you flipped the switch? If I'm sitting still and flip the switch, I have to move forward just slightly before it engages. If I sit still and turn the 4x4 on, the light will not come on and 4wd will not engage until I start to move. It doesn't take much, just a couple of inches or so, but this is how mine works 100% of the time.

I've not had any issues with it, though. The 4wd works flawlessly.
I always back up about 20 feet or so every time I turn it off, if that matters. I've always understood that by reversing after turning it off, it allows the hubs to unwind and disengage. Not sure whether it's true or not, but doesn't hurt anything to do it.

The IWE's are vacuum operated...they do not need to un-wind..your wasting your time.
