Default 4x4 Not working...

I've got a '97 F-150 4.6L XLT... I've got a stick shift for it to go into 4x4 but it only goes into 2WD or Nutreal, no 4H or 4L. Would my truck have vacuum seals that need to be replaced? I know a little bit about mechanics but not alot, think anybody here could help me out?

Thanks I'll give that a try, I'll let you know if that was the problem or not.
